Guideship Open Climb Invitation 2009
Greetings!
For fifteen years, the Loyola Mountaineers has been promoting a culture of environmental appreciation, awareness and conservation through its sport in Ateneo de Manila Unviersity. In this light, we would like to invite your group to avail of our Guideship Open Climb 2009. Open climbs are given to non-mountaineering groups that want to experience the outdoors. Moreover, open climbs are opportunities for team-building and bonding for your group. Mountains for such do not require much physical exertion, but do require basic skills such as backpacking, cooking, and tent-pitching (for overnight packages). We will be providing the necessary orientation for these climbs.
The dates and venues for open climbs are as follows:
January 10-11 Mt. Maculot, Batangas
January 24-25` Mt. Batulao, Batangas
January 31-February 1 Mt. Pico de Loro, Cavite
(Itineraries for the climbs are located at the Itineraries Section)
Each climb will accommodate a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 slots. It would be upon your choice if you would prefer a day climb or an overnight climb. Each climb would cost approximately 750php/head depending on the chosen mountain and the nature of the climb (day trip or overnight). The package is inclusive of transportation, guide fee and equipment rental fee.
Deadline for confirmation will be on January 3 2009, slots shall be entertained on a first come-first served basis.
Please contact us through Des (0917-8006473) or Mon (0917-8925325), or visit us at MVP 307. Other details and gallery is located at lmopenclimb.multiply.com
Thank you.

Mt Marami
Mt Marami (aka Silyang Bato) Brgy. Ramirez, Magallanes, Cavite
Revised by ANDRUEN SANICO (APR 2007)
DAY 1
0600 AM - meet at PARK-AND-RIDE STATION in LAWTON, MANILA
0630 AM - ETD NAIC, CAVITE via rented van (P900). You can ask this van to pick you up the next day.
There is also a van terminal in Naic.
0830 AM - ETA NAIC, CAVITE in BPI Naic branch beside the jeepney terminal going
to MAGALLANES
0830 AM - ETD BRGY. RAMIREZ, MAGALLANES, CAVITE in Consehal Piling’s place.
OPTION A:
Via rented jeepney (P600). Ask the jeepney driver to stop by the MAGALLANES
MUNICIPAL HALL POLICE to register. Ask jeepney driver to pick you up the next day.
OPTION B:
Commute. JEEP to Magallanes (P30/head). Ask jeepney driver to drop you off at the
MUNICIPAL HALL. Register at the Police Station. TRIKE (right outside of municipal hall)
to Brgy. Ramirez (P15/head). Ask trike to pick you up the folowing day.
[Impt: Verify last trip from Magallanes to Naic for the following day,
in case IT needs to be adjusted]
0915 AM - ETA BRGY. RAMIREZ, MAGALLANES, CAVITE (JUMP-OFF POINT). Look for Consehal
Piling’s place beside a water tank to Register. Climbing fee is P10 per
head. Get guides if available. (P300(kid) - P2000(according to MFPI e-groups)
0930 AM - START TRECK. One can easily get lost in the start of the trail so ask
the locals when ever you can for directions going to NUESTRA SENORA
DELA PAZ.
Take note of the point where the trail from Brgy. Ramirez, joins the Main Road
going to NUESTRA. Place a trail marker. Take a photo. There’s a big black rock on the trail,
and a big Mango Tree on the other side of the road.
1100 AM - ETA NUESTRA SENORA DELA PAZ. You can opt to have lunch here. The other option is the
KAPIHAN NIPA HUT. The caretakers sometimes give cold water to trekkers.
1230 PM - Resume Trek. You’ll be passing a trail beside a barbed wire fence going down to
a fork, turn right. Take note of this point. The trail will lead you to a river near
a house (not yet the kapihan hut). There’s a water source here, just ask the owner
of the house where it is.
0130 PM - ETA KAPIHAN NIPA HUT. A hut ALONG THE TRAIL mostly made
up of bamboo with a fairly large veranda also made up of bamboo.
There’s a river (not potable) on the left most trail (facing the house
from the front) and a faucet abt 10m away from the hut on the right
most trail (facing the house from the front).
(The faucet was no where to be found as of APR 2007)
This is the start of the assault. And after this point, the trail get crazier.
Place trail markers often, preferrably bright colored ribbons. Forks are not obvious
until you pass them on your way back. As you near the summit, there will be
an overgrowth of bamboo.
General direction: UP.
0330 PM - The trail forks to an entrance of a bamboo covered trail and a steep
trail that is directly above the SILYANG BATO (big rock formations).
Either trail will get you to the SILYANG BATO camp site. If you choose
the bamboo covered trail, you will arrive at a clearing and the SILYANG
BATO will be on your right side. Use the right trail to go to the
SILYANG BATO campsite. The left trail will lead you to another campsite
on the mountain which is bigger and has more wind barriers than the
campsite on SILYANG BATO.
The bamboo covered trail is almost impossible to pass due to overgrowth.
Bring a bolo. The steep trail requires a bit of rock scrambling
but is easier and faster to go through.
The campsite on SILYANG BATO can only hold a
max of 2 7×7 tents because of its uneven and rocky grounds.
0430 PM - ETA of SILYANG BATO CAMPSITE.
0530 PM - ETA of the other campsite on the mountain.
0900 PM - LIGHTS OUT
DAY 2
0700 AM - Wake up call and prepare breakfast.

0300 PM - ETA BRGY RAMIREZ HALL. You can take a bath here for P10 per head.
0400 PM - ETD BRGY RAMIREZ
0445 PM - ETA NAIC, CAVITE (Jeepney terminal). You can ask the van driver if
he is willing to drop you off in katipunan for an extra fee.
0645 PM - ETA PARK-AND-RIDE STATION, LAWTON, MANILA

9:30 AM Start Trek (we started at around 9:15 but it’s just a matter of luck)
12:00 AM ETA Manggahan. Lunch break
(if you don’t get lost, this is a good time to arrive in the campsite, we arrived at 12:30 because we couldn’t find the trail leading to the lunch site)
1300 PM Modules (knot tying, bolo handling and care, fire lays, ropemanship – as much as possible do these all in first day. The only times the modules were split into two days were the ones where the weather went bad.)

Day 2:
0600 AM Wake-Up Call, prepare for breakfast
0700 AM Breakfast
0800 AM Break camp, prepare for descent
0900 AM Start trek down (As a rule, 3 hours from call time is enough time to make & eat breakfast, to strike down tents, and to fix things. This is to teach the sense of urgency. The TL may also decide to make applicants with sanctions to bring down bags of trash as consequence for their tardiness/ whatever reason for which they were penalized.)
1100 AM ETA Lunch Site (We arrived at 12:30 because the ground was slippery and steep. The TL didn’t give call for rest stops because there had been a lot of compression stops. Adjust to fit the number of climbers. Prepare for a lot of thorny plants and cogon along the way.)
1200 AM Module (ropemanship, fire building. As previously mentioned, this only happens in instances when the weather is bad. Adjust accordingly with the following activities.)
1300 PM ETD Lunch Site
1400 PM ETA Malaya (There are no more buses in the market. Jeeps and FXs bound for SHAW/ Crossings are available.)
1630 PM ETA Manila (Upon reaching Junction, Cainta, allow those who’d want to go to Ateneo/ Katipunan to take a jeep separate from those bound for Crossing. Ask for the travel prices, not contractual prices because it’s cheaper that way.)
